This thread is the play thread for all characters.
I'll be following Grettir's format from The Price of Freedom so:

Grettir wrote:
Posts can be either in-character or out-of-character, or a combination of both. Posts containing at least a portion of in-character text should be overwritten with the character’s name and location. Both this heading and any in-character text (and only in-character text) are for ease of reference to be done in bold bbcode, if you please.

Anything that’s out of character, including requests for clarification of circumstances and questions, should be written in plain text. Comments and suggestions on another player’s character’s exploits are welcome and encouraged.

When characters are not together in one location, which will be the case often, we play their scenes parallel to each other.

Ten days ago....

Pierre Richileu De Villiers, Chief Herald of the Duche of the Royaume Millieu , Pegasus Montagne, Fae Realm

Pierre was a patient man, but his patience was not tested, in a matter of hours he saw a group of Centaurs escorting a familiar Fey elf: Stendarin the Wise, who had been the diplomatic contact with the middle realm for his predecessor and his predecessor's predecessor, and so on for as long as anyone could remember. Of all in the Fey realm he seemed the least concerned with the difference in life-span between Fae and human although it probably effected him more than most.

Pierre watched as he halted the centaurs and preceded up the mountain alone and unescorted. He was wearing a deceptfully simply cut robe, which Pierre knew was of beautiful workmanship and subtly ornate. It did not take him long to ascend and when he reached the pavilion he politely recieved refreshments. He then took the offered chair turned it and sat beside Pierre facing the realm below. Pierre felt a particular union between them: Finally the folly of men and creatures had been handed back to them to restore peace and order. They sat quietly for some time before Stendarin said in perfectly unaccented Chetrienne " Now Pierre, how are we to fix this mess?" Pierre handed him the offical parchment, and they sat down to work out a place and time of formal negotiation.

Roaring Plunge: Barranawroc Forsiegath

The negotiations will take place at the waterfall called by the Humans Roaring Plunge. In the Fae realm at the waterfall, there is a settlement called Barranawroc Forsiegath, the settlement is based around the home of Sharinamuthaphlon, Unicorn of the Wreath of Light. The settlement is quite different from a human settlement, being much more open plan, with a considerable number of equine creatures living inside. It features a large stone and wood wall (for defence), the inside is a roofed courtyard. There are structures inside but they are open at the top with the large high roof overhead being used to protect against the weather. Sharinamuthaphlon represents all of the equine creatures in the Wreath of Light, but also acts as Krithas (magistrate) for the surrounding forest region. The diplomatic mission will reside as her guests during the negotiations, which will occur in the human realm. There is a portal just on the top of the ridge overlooking the lower (below the waterfall) valley.

About one hours travel away, is the home of Jean-Michel Molette, Comte du Rabaisse and member of the Ducal Council. He is a man of considerable wealth and he is hosting the entire ducal council and Duc Frederic and the duchess Monique, the whole council except for Pierre Richieu De Villiers, the Chief Herald who together with his assistant Eduard Baron of Annais will be staying at a hunting lodge and pavilion at the waterfall.

The Ducal Council is:
Vassily Beaugamont, Comte du Brionne [anti]
Jean-Michel Molette, Comte du Rabaisse [anti]
Reynard, Comte du Marepas [anti]
Charles Desjardins, Comte du Rameaux [pro]
Celeste Vapeaux, Archimage, Silver Circle [pro]
Pierre Richieu De Villiers, Chief Herald. Protector of the code. [pro]
Duc Frederic [undecided]

The wreath of light and King Arthalion are also assembling nearby and will arrive soon.

The Wreath of light:
Aprisa Deftheart: Catfolk [anti]
Gossamer Monarch: Fairy(Pixies/Sprites/Nymphs) [undecided]
Sharinamuthaphion: Unicorn (Equines) [pro]
Artheun Whitehoof, Centaur [anti]
Basca, Bear [undecided]
Vascar Stonebeard, Dwarf [pro]
Sarvani Asjakin, Griffin [undecided]
Arthalion King of light, Fey [undecided]
Queen Gwendara, Fey [pro]

Behind the waterfall is a small cave difficult to access and much more difficult to access unseen because of the presence of the large pavilion that has been erected in the clearing and the teams of servants who are servicing the negotiations under the watchful eye of Siliviar Dumont Duc's apocothery and organised by Sarrina the catfolk Seneschal of the Court of Light.

In the cave is a portal to the dark realm, although none know this, except Lewella, former courtesan of the dancing princess and now mistress of the Comte du Brionne, and Nuance.

The negotiation teams include:

Humans

Pierre De Villiers Herald [seeking reconciliation at any price]
Reynard Comte du Marepas [wants to get the Duc's son back then end negotations]
Eduard Baron du Annais, assitant to Pierre [son of Reynaurd] [seeking reconciliation if possible and the price not too high]
Nuance [assitant to Eduard]
Vassily Beaugmont, Comte du Brionne [opposed to any negotiations with Court of Light, although publically moderate]
Lewella "Fey Courtesan" come mistress of the Count and Unseelie agent opposed to Abia B'dia [she is in the background]
Bernard Rousseau: Thug come organised crime figure ostensibly an advisor to Vassily Beaugmont.
Celeste Vapeaux, Archimage, Silver Circle [pro] [advisor to team pro extremely concerned about realm balance]

Court of Light

Stendarin the wise [pro reconcilliation extremey concerned about realm balance]
Sharinamuthaphion: Unicorn (Equines) [pro negotation, concerned about unseelie threat]
Tabithia [assitant diplomat to Stendarin]
Aratheun Whitehoof Centaur [anti] very concerned about a human trap, not willing to take any risks with them.

Nuance, Château Rabaisse, Evening, Mercredi

Nuance had been pleased, Cantara had been very clear. She had worked her way, rather deftly she thought, into the entourage of her Father, Eduard. In fact she had done better than she imagined she could. Posing as a scribe, Eduard had taken a liking to her and was using her as his assistant. Cantara wished for intelligence and that was almost too easy. Next Nuance needed to persuade him to oppose the reconcilliation and then to undermine the chief Herald. Her orders were clear though if she failed she must kill her Father.

Now however there was a complication, Lewella the doppelgänger had arrived as the mistress of the Comte du Brionne and that should not have interfered with her plan, except she still didn't know whom Lewella was working for, she was sure it was not Cantara, but whom of the Utterdark, could it be? It could be her grandmother and if so she dare not oppose her, but if it were another she might be required to.

She walked silently along the corridor, she heard a familiar voice, her Father Eduard's, he was, well, if not drunk, certainly affected by wine, and with him was a stunningly beautiful woman rather provocatively draped over his arm and looking intently into his eyes. He had a rather sheepish stunned look on his face.
Suddenly the woman's familiar head jerked around and looked directly into the shadows at Nuance, and immediately she turned to flee but she was a little too entwined in Eduard to do so succesfully, tripping and dropping something out of her hand, which clattered on the floor. The woman abandoned any dignity and fled. Eduard slumped to the ground, dazed, a strange look on his face. Nuance changed back from mist form and ran down the corridor, fearing the worst. She rolled Eduard over and sighed in relief that he appeared unhurt. She walked over to the fallen object and let out a little gasp, when she saw it was a rather nasty looking sarcaxioth dagger.

A sudden realisation came over her and it left her a little shocked. She hadn't involuntarily changed to mist since she was a girl. Finally discipline returned and emotions were quelled. Now what to do?.........

Ian,

I have modified the kicker a fair bit, so if you don't like the direction it has gone then we can talk about that. Eduard plans to go with the party to the falls in the morning and the Herald and himself and their entourages will be staying at the falls for the negotiations.

All I know about the sarcaxioth dagger is that it is black with a nasty looking shape (serrations etc etc) and it is a scary dark court weapon.

I imagined the woman was Lewella but I have left it open in case you want to change the name :D

Tabithia, Harwathia Bridge, 12 miles from the waterfall, Evening Mercredi

Tabithia had stood quietly waiting for all the party to be assembled. The mood was tense amongst the diplomats as they tried to come to terms with the impossible task they had been set. King Arthalion's words came back to her "You must succeed. Our Great Forest and the lives of all who live here are in your hands. Silvani has made that clear. Go with the blessing of the Wreath and the Court of Light, and may Light guide your path and your words."
She took a deep breath and had looked up to see Gariliion hesitantly making his way along the side of the clearing towards her. Her tail twitched slightly in irritation. What was he doing here at a time like this! The last thing she needed was a reminder of her shameful family. As he came up to her, she could see he looked pale under his fur. He held out a letter, yellowed with age and well worn, tied with a blood red strip of cloth.
"Humbly do I beseech thee, Tabithia Satinpaw, take of this missive, and impart it to thine heart. I know not where it shall take thee, but I call the Light to find thee wherever it may lead" The formal, archaic phrasing stopped her short. Reluctantly but compulsively, she had held her paw out, unable to refuse a request made by family in the highest of the ancient traditions. She thrust it into her jacket with a bow. "Garillion Nimblepaw, I will honour thy request, lest our family suffer dishonour. May thou holdst to the Light as the Light holdeth to thee." She finished the formulaic response, then, seeing the pain in his eyes, held her paw palm up to him. He grasped it gratefully and briefly pulled her close. "Beloved, this letter will explain so much. My thoughts are with you, go in the Light. You can do this, I know."
As the Diplomatic party left, she straightened with renewed purpose. She would do this, she would remove the stain of dishonour from her family. It was only later as they camped for the night, that she remembered the old letter in her jacket. She opened it, curious as to what Gariliion's final words to her meant. A curious signet ring fell out.
Elenia wrote:
"My Dearest Tabithia,
I wish, my darling, that I could live to see you grow, but I cannot. As much as my parents tell me that they see me in you, my daughter, I can only see your father as I look into your eyes. Forgive me for deceiving you - you have no future as my daughter, the blighted half human product of my years at the Dancing Princess. It is better that the Great Forest see you as my baby sister. Garillion has told you much, I am sure, of the folly that led me to the very pit of hell. I leave this letter with him, trusting that he will know the right time to give it to you. I want to tell you the story of that time myself - perhaps it will help you understand why I cannot bear the shame any longer, why I have to leave you and this beautiful forest - it all seems tainted to me now. I wish I could have been a mother to you, my only kitten, but even had I stayed, my parents, our Realm, would never have allowed it. Guard our secret well, dearest. Here is my story...... "
She continued to read through the letter, the words destroying her world, clawing deep into her soul.

Tabithia, Harwathia Bridge 12 miles from Falls, Dawn Vendredi

Tabithia woke red eyed and tired, never before had she wept so much, a distinctly non cat folk trait. But tears had helped salve the pain in her heart and she awoke with new determination. As she roused herself, she noticed sitting on a tree stump nearby quietly was Stendarin the Wise, cousin of King Arthalion and Chief Diplomat, in his hand was the parchment letter from her mother.

He said, My dear child what a time to recieve such news. I'm afraid that we must discuss this before we arrive. I fear your place in the team has been put in jeopardy by your brother or should I say uncle. You know that I respect you as a professional and wise diplomat. But you must see that this jeopardises the mission, a desperate mission for the future of our realm. However you should know that the seer Silvani walked into this clearing not ten minutes ago and insisted that you be part of the team, she absolutley forbade me to let you leave, saying you are a child of prophecy. Indeed we would not even be having this conversation, had I not learnt over the last thousand years that seers are not be ignored, not only are they usually right, but they never let you forget if you ignore their advice.
So I'll give you an hour to compose yourself and come and convince me in the main tent why you should be part of the team.

Zoe.
Tabithia can do whatever she wishes in the hour. You can write the next scene. You could a drama point to write the meeting with Stendarin out of the story (He has a heart attack walking back to the tent)

If you decide that she pull herself together in the next hour, dress and enter into the tent at the appointed time then

Tabithia could try and persuade or negotiate (diplomacy) (or she could if she wanted seduce, intimidate , lie (sincerity), ridicule or attack or whatever you like)

Persuasion will be arguing that she should not be removed from her position
It will be a Wit(6)/Persuasion(5) vs WP(6)/Persuasion (4)

She will have bonus Dice for SAs 3 for her drive to reconcile and 1 for child of prophecy.

So 10 dice Target Number 5 vs 6 dice TN 4

If she botches the roll (0 success and two or more dice with a one) She will be forced to leave the negotiations of pain of arrest.
If she gets equal or more successes than Stendarin she will remain part of the diplomacy team
If she gets 2 more successes than him she will stay the assistant negotiator
If she gets 1 less success than stendarin she will be part of the entourage but in the background
If she gets two less successes she will be assisting from the settlement

Diplomacy
will be trying to negotiate her new position in the team with the new information involved. Ie concedeing that her position needs to change and negotiating for the change

She will use SOC (6)/Diplomacy (4) vs SOC 7/Diplomacy (4)
(He is a diplomat)

She will get bonus dice Beauty of Legends (3), SAs drive to reconcile (3) and child of prophecy (1)

So 13 Dice TN 4. vs 7 dice TN 4

If she botches she will be forced to leave on pain of arrest.
If she gets 3 or more less successes than him she will be restricted to the settlement
If she gets less successes than him she will help from the settlement
If she gets the same successes as him she will remain in the team but in the background
If she gets one more success than him she will remain in the team and assist the other negotiators
If she gets two more successes than him she will assist Stendarin
If she gets three more success than him she will sit at the table with Stendarin
If she gets 4 more successes than him she'll take the lead in some sessions
If she gets 6 or more more successes than him she'll lead a part of the negotiation while he negotiates somewhere else.

"My Lord! Are you all right? Are you wounded!?" Nuance cried out in alarm as she gently patted over Eduard's abdomen and chest, reassuring herself that he hadn't been knifed by the would-be assassin. There was genuine concern in Nuance's voice; the thought that someone would attempt to slay him before the talks were even begun was concerning enough. Who else amongst the delegations was being targeted this night?

Edouard seemed dazed and was a little slow to recover. Nuance assisted him as best she could. As they weaved their way along the corridor Celeste Vapeaux rounded the corner and spotted their plight. Her step quickened as she hurried towards them.

"My Lord Baron, what is wrong?". Celeste asked.

"I think he may have been drugged -- or something." Nuance replied. "He has been drinking, it is true, but not overly. Would you be able to assist, Madame?"

"Certainly. My room is closer -- let's take him there..." Celeste said, and then whispered, "...and you can tell me the whole tale away from prying ears and eyes and who knows what else."

Celeste and Nuance helped Eduard down the corridor, he seemed strong enough, he was just disorientated and with two of them they managed to get him to Celeste's room. The room was small, with a large bed, a small table and simple chair. By the table Nuance noticed three large trunks, locked with large ornate locks and continous silver circle designs on the exterior.

"The bed" I think Celeste said "and lets have a look at him. " She checked him over, listening to his breathing. She said "He seems OK for the moment, but I need to know what happened to him, quickly"

Nuance will need to make a Sincerity roll. If she basically tells the truth then the TN is -2. Otherwise as normal.

If she botches the roll, then Celeste will realise Nuance's dark court connection.
If she gets less successes than Celeste, then Celeste will shift suspicion to Nuance.
If she gets equal successes than Celeste, Celeste will be unconvinced and unsure
If she gets more successes than Celeste, Celeste is convinced and the margin of success will be added as extra dice for the next part of the conversation.

Nuance will have SOC 5 + 2 (Drive) TN 4 (or 2 if she tells the truth)

Celeste has a PER of 5 and TN 8
[dice]hricfioxop[/dice]
[dice]qlordpzgrs[/dice]
[dice]iqptlsdwyk[/dice]
[dice]gntocrcrjt[/dice]
[dice]ylgoknfcxn[/dice]

What happens next depends on what Nuance's goal is and what she is trying to convince Celeste of.

At the end of the news conversation Eduard will suddenly become orientated clear and unhurt and with no evidence of inebriation, but no memory after leaving the dinner table and heading back toward his quarters

Let's see how persuasive Nuance can be...

"Madame Celeste, I was in the corridor returning to my room when I saw my Lord Eduard walking down the corridor, arm-in-arm with a young woman. Their intent seemed all too obvious -- and my Lord seemed intoxicated. I tried to be discrete! Unfamiliar with the layout of this place I tried to head in some other direction -- any other direction -- but the young woman spotted me. Then her behaviour became most strange -- she pushed my Lord Eduard aside and fled in the opposite direction!

"But tell me Madame -- will he be all right?!"

Celeste's heart filled with fear, "surely not", she prayed, but the signs were too suspicious to be ignored. Thank the code that that wonderful assistant to the Baron came along when she did. Not only was the Baron saved, but she was there to report the story. Celeste was rather taken aback by her fortune to have such a good eyewitness, coming to her moments after the event. Could it have been just drunkedness, she could not smell alcohol on his breath. A noise from behind her made her start. The baron was sitting up in bed, completely normal and unaffected, he did not even appear to be drunk. His mind seemed clear, speech steady as he asked how he got there. Careful enquiry found out that he didn't remember anything since he left dinner and set off toward his room. Just audibly, Celeste muttered "Conquer". Then looked around to speak again to Nuance...

WHOA!, Nuance is quiet the liar isn't she. She basically told the truth so that's 7 successes. (she would have had six for an outright lie so she's very good liar.) Celeste got 1. So that's a margin of 6.

With as great a margin as that Celeste finds her completely trustworthy. At this moment it will add a whopping 6 dice to Nuance's next roll in this conversation. So what does Nuance want to achieve as far as Celeste goes?

The bonus six dice will last until morning for one roll of conversation with Celeste.

Celeste gave a start and said, "Where did you get that my child?". Nuance replied "The young woman dropped it in her haste to get away from My Lord". A sudden change came over Celeste's face, she was no longer worried or frightened, but purposeful. She looked down upon Nuance with a kind but determined face. Now my dear, you must tell me everything that happened from the very beginning, everything, you saw, heard, smelt, felt.
Nuance felt her eyes lock into Celeste's

Celeste is going to interrogate Nuance. She is not going to use Magic, because 1. There is a dangerous sorceror on the loose in the castle. 2. Magic is becoming unstable and more dangerous 3. Nuance has gained her absolute trust.

I think the best way to handle it is an Intriuge roll. I am assuming that Nuance wishes to have Lewella (or whoever) dumped into it.

Nuance:

SOC (5) + Drive (2) + (6) from previous = 13 / Intrigue (3)

Celeste SOC (5)/ Intrigue 6

[dice]puljidjrzh[/dice]
[dice]rpcsdsfvjl[/dice]
[dice]ztdadrgezw[/dice]
[dice]kfinoznwse[/dice]
[dice]uxpnclxnmx[/dice]

If Nuance botches, Celeste will work out that she is a Dark Court Spy
If Nuance gets 1 less success than Celeste Celeste will doubt the story
If Nuance gets 3 or more less success than Celeste, Celeste will beleive that Nuance was involved in the attack
If Nuance gets equal successes then Celeste will be unsure what to beleive
If Nuance gets 1 Success more than Celeste Celeste will beleive that the girl is working for the Dark Court ie from the middle realm
If Nuance gets 2 more successes then Celeste will believe that the girl is from the dark court
If Nuance gets 3 more successes then Celeste will beleive that the girl was the one using magic and she is from the dark court
If Nuance gets 4 more successes then Celeste will beleive that the girl is of social significance (one of the nobles)
If Nuance gets 5 more successes Celeste will beleive that Lewella, Comte du Brionnes mistress is the dark court agent using magic
If Nuance gets 6 more successed Celeste will think that Lewella has a relationship with a range of men in the Court
If Nuance gets 8 more successes then Celeste will realise that Lewella the Dark Court agent has a relationship with the Duc
If Nunace gets ten more successes than Celeste then Celeste will realise that Lewella has considerable influence on the Duc
If Nuance gets twelve more successes than Celeste then Celeste will realise that Lewella is controlling the Duc.

Ian, If you want to bargain and change the odds, feel free to do so, but do not roll until I have agreed to them. Otherwise [cringing] Go for it.

Celeste said to Nuance, "Put the dagger on the table there dear. I will need to deal with that later"

Sorry I forgot.

EDIT: On reflection I think Ive made it a bit hard. So

If Nuance gets 7 more successes then Celeste will realise that Lewella the Dark Court agent has a relationship with the Duc
If Nunace gets 8 more successes than Celeste then Celeste will realise that Lewella has considerable influence on the Duc
If Nuance gets 9 more successes than Celeste then Celeste will realise that Lewella is controlling the Duc
If Nuance gets 10 more successes than Celeste then Celeste will realise that Lewella is controlling several of the Ducal Council

Nuance, motivated by a desire to ensure Eduard's safety, is trying to turn him from the path of Reconciliation. While she suspects the shapechanger, Nuance will direct their attention towards the Fae. So let me know what I need to roll. I won't use the bonus dice yet.

Nuance, Château Rabaisse, Evening, Mercredi

"There is not much more to tell Madame. Well, at least not about the encounter. When the woman fled I heard something drop to the floor. However, I was more concerned about my Lord's condition than anything else. Once I determined that he was not wounded and that he was breathing clearly I searched briefly for what had caused the noise. While I cannot be absolutely sure that this knife caused the noise I did find it nearby.

"Having found the blade I realised that I had seen it before. Or at least I recognised the handle. Earlier in the day I was sitting in the shade of a fern, reading my book while Lord Eduard met with the Master Herald, Pierre de Villiers. One of the catfolk, a guardsman perhaps, walked up and sat on the steps not far from me. He was cursing and limping a little. He unlaced one boot and pulled it off. Shaking it upside down a large stone clattered onto the path. While he reached for the stone I noticed that the inside of his boot was made in such a way that it had a knife sheath incorporated into it. I could see that because it held a blade -- and the handle sticking from it looked very similar to that one.

"He -- or she, I can't really tell -- threw the stone vehemently into the garden. Then he pulled on his boot, laced it, and headed off.

"I didn't think much of it at the time -- to be honest my book was far more interesting than the actions of a catfolk soldier -- but now that I see this blade in good light ... well, if they aren't the same then they are at least very similar."

Tabithia, Harwathia Bridge 12 miles from Falls, Morning Vendredi

Tabithia took a final look at herself in the pool beyond the bridge. Her eyes were no longer red, the mask was back in place. She smiled slightly, thinking of the deep claw marks in the trees not far from here. It had felt good to rip into the bark, a much needed release. Much more suitable as an expression of grief than those dreadful tears. She took a deep breath, running over her arguments one last time in her mind, before turning abruptly and striding purposefully through the clearing to the main tent, her head held high, her tail held still to hide the churning she felt inside, she focused on all the pride and dignity of the catfolk, letting it sigh through her. She nodded pleasantly to the Centaurs guarding the tent, carefully watching for any sign of derision, but they seemed perfectly the same as they had yesterday. She lifted the flap high and entered.
"Excuse me, Honoured Mentor" she bowed as she approached Stendarin the Wise, "I wish to speak with you alone, if I may, about recent developments." She hoped that her usual manner of speaking to him would help reassure him of her ability to handle this new information with her usual objectivity. He looked at her closely, taking in her immaculate appearance, his eyes quickly flicking to her tail, knowing that it was the best way to read the emotions of the catfolk. She was proud that she managed to keep it perfectly still. "Of course, Tabithia, let us take a walk along the river." She bowed again, grateful that he had thought to use the burbling of the river to increase the difficulty for someone eavesdropping.
She fell in behind him, her customary position, allowing him to leave the tent before her. As she lifted the flap herself, her eyes fell briefly on Silvani, who was standing against the far side. She stilled for a moment, feeling the fur on her neck start to rise involuntarily. Silvani's eyes narrowed slightly, as if assessing her, then with a brief approving smile, she nodded firmly. It felt good knowing that the Seer was on her side. The rest now was up to her.

Tabithia watched Stendarin's eyes follow a leaf as it swirled in the current. As it disappeared beneath the surface, he turned to face her, his eyes troubled, and gestured for her to begin.
"My Lord Stendarin, you chose me as a part of this delegation because you knew I felt differently about this Reconciliation than my family, indeed, from most of those in our kingdom. This letter and the news that it contains does affect that, but indeed, it only strengthens my desire for Reconciliation. I believe deeply that Silvani's sight is true, that Reconciliation is the only way to save our Beloved Realm, our magnificent Forest and all those we hold dear, but now I also have a far more personal stake in this - an even stronger reason to see our two realms come to a position of peace. My heritage gives me a unique position in these negotiations, and that position is an even stronger one than before....
