I'm thinking about modifying my game to make melee and ranged combat uniform. Instead of a 2 exchanges in a round, each round is 1 exchange and combat pools regain proficiency or wits, whichever is higher.
Ranged combat functions the same, except since rounds are only 1 exchange, characters can fire twice as often at the table.
If I do this, I think I could modify the other rules to use a gridmap and initiative pretty effectively. I would use d6 status dice to track effects (e.g. prone, stun, knocked weapon) and arrow dice to track locked targets (e.g. counter and grapple must attack same target next round).
Ignoring the grid and initiative, can you think of any way that changing the melee combat would break any mechanics in the 1v1 duel? It would certainly *change* some strategies like exploiting a diceless E2.
