Hey,

I just thought I would point out this truly unique little gem of a pc game to you. It's an independent effort of two people that grew into an awesome game, merely through the fact that the gameplay was great from the very beginning. It's a medieval, realistic type of sandbox roleplaying/action/simulation game that might appeal to you folks here. The sword/melee combat is awesome and fun and the mounted combat unrivaled. The multiplayer is pretty badass, and a stroke of your greatsword will drop your enemy or his horse. It's great!

Yeah well, hype mode off. But it truly is alot of fun. While the multiplayer is purely action oriented (though the engine supports, with mods, now up to 222 players in a big siege battle...), the singleplayer is pretty deep, where you build up your unknown knight, gather followers, swear alliances to lords, lay siege on castles, marry for political reasons, travel the world, hunt bandits.

Cheers,
Sandor

There's an older thread about it too: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=78

I bought original the game while it was still in beta and haven't upgraded to Warband, as multiplayer mode aside there seemed little improvement. And I wasn't as anxious about the multiplayer anyway -- there are some people with insane skills out there and it wouldn't be fun facing one of those...

Don't get me wrong, Whoopin is a cool guy but...

That aside, I'm definitely buying With Fire and Sword when that comes out, though!

Yeah I should have guessed that it did come up on here before, sorry then for the re-reference.

I didn't play the original but the reviews say that the graphics were also improved, which to me alone would be a reason to upgrade a game :)

As for the multiplayer and mad skills - I have played on three seperate occasions for several hours straight in different games, and I must say, I caught up pretty fast and always ended up among the best 3 of my team in team death match, sometimes I even lead the chart. Now and then there were some incredibly good guys who lead with like twice the kills but still, once you get a hang of it, it's smooth sailing. No health recovery and quick kills do that ...

Oh and I have to point out, I am not particulariy gifted for such games. And I really suck at fps..

With fire and sword seems interesting too, I will definetly get that one.

Cheers,
Sandor

I haven't actually seen a direct comparison, but I'm not an avid enough computer player for the added eye candy to appeal to me. I think my main gripe about Warband wasn't so much the expected difficulties of multiplayer mode, but the fact that these new very minor gameplay improvements, such as ability to become a king... and to get married... and having a comprehensive budget summary weren't AFAIK carried on to the old game with some patch. If I could build a lineage or dynasty in the new game's single player mode, I'd probably buy it, but it seems silly to stash out full game's worth of dough for a short wedding cut scene...

I guess it should have been just an Expansion pack rather than a full game. I don't know how it was priced on release, but now it's 30$, which isn't that big for a full game imo. Though I might be a bit "spoiled" with PS3 games which are like 60 to 70 dollars here in europe.

Either way, it's a great game and deserves to set the stage for other games with a similar premise.

Cheers,
Sandor

Funnily enough, it was a debate about the use of hit points on the Mount&Blade forum that led me to TRoS (someone pointed out that if you can do without them in a P&P game, it's even easier to do without on a computer based game).

I imagine adding better graphics to the game is not a small job, so, from a developer viewpoint it's of course a valid reason for announcing new product.

Ouch. Kind of makes me glad I was last addicted to the console games when 8-bit was the norm and 16-bit was cutting edge.

Indeed! :)

Lucky you! I found TROS at completely random when googling for a Desperado RPG.
